Anxious Ashley
Black Standardbred mare
Ashley is fading black who becomes quite "grulla-looking"
in later summer. The early spring photo shows, however, that
she is indeed a black. The Standardbred breed is not known
to have any of the dilution genes to the best of our knowledge
at this time.

Casanova
Brown Buckskin Warmblood colt
Casanova is classic of a brown buckskin foal,
with his dark shaded head/neck/shoulder, as well as the already
advanced shadowing on his leg points. His dark, vivid dorsal
is also fairly typical of a brown based foal. Casanova's sire
is a lighter expressed brown Warmblood stallion. His dam is
his only "color" source, and she is a palomino Thoroughbred.
There is no dun dilution in the Thoroughbred breed, so no
chance of her being a dunalino.

Brightest Gold
2001 Buckskin Thoroughbred filly
This filly has a very prominent counter shading
dorsal. Her dam is the same palomino mare pictured with the
brown buckskin Warmblood colt above. Again, there is no dun
dilution in the Thoroughbred bred, so no chance that this filly
could be a dun color.

Ever The Gentleman
2003 Smoky Black Paint gelding
The dorsal on this foal is a counter shading
dorsal, which is very commonly seen on smoky black foals.
His newborn coat color is not diluted to the light dove-gray
or buff with dove tones of a grulla foal.

Black Velvet Lady
Smoky Black APHA mare
This young mare does a wonderful impersonation
of a grulla in summer coat when she fades.

Silver Brigadier
Bay/Brown Silver Dapple Saddlebred
The silver dapple dilution gene is very rare
in the Saddlebred breed, but the dun gene is not known to
exist at all. This silver dapple foal has a counter shading
dorsal.

Corizon de Oro
Buckskin Morgan gelding
Sire's parents names?? Cori's neck markings
are caused by seasonal sootiness. He only has these markings
during seasonal coat transitions.

Royal Gold Sunara (Sunny)
Morgan mare
Sunny's sire is the perlino Morgan stallion,
Finallys Mr Andy, who only has cream dilute parents. The dun
dilution does not exist in the Arabian breed.
Her wither marking is very dark, and she even
appears to have some counter shading markings extending from
her dorsal area, resembling dorsal barbs. These markings vary
during seasonal coat transitions, just as counter shading
markings normally will.
