Ear Tips & Rims

The dark ear tips on the back sides of a buckskin or dun can be extensive like those shown in this collage, or they can be much less extensive. But, the more extensive dark tips are not exclusive to dun dilute colors.

The light tips at the very tips of the ears on the dun example are exclusive to dun dilutes, however. They are not seen on all duns, but have not been seen on non-dun colored horses.

The dark lining,or rims, of the ears are typical of bays, buckskins and browns, as well as all dun dilute colors. The rims of a dun dilute may be more precisely lined. We don't have an example of the lining or rims of a dun dilute to include here at this time for a side-by-side comparison. But we will add it to this collage when a good example becomes available to us.
