After Clipping

Dunskin Morgan colt

When Mirabellas Magnum was born, his owner saw a very well defined, but thin, red dorsal while he was still wet. Once he dried, his owner could no longer see a clearly defined dorsal. He reported that the colt's coat was very wavy, especially along the top line. So, he set his clippers to a longer length and just took off the ends of the hairs along Magnum's dorsal area. The thin red dorsal became visible once again!

It is fairly common for dun dilute foals to be born with thin dorsal stripes, and we believe the wavy foal coat laid in such a way that the longer diluted hairs along his top line laid over the thin dorsal just enough to hide it from view.
